Enchanted Maternity Photoshoot in Craggy Gardens, NC

Hi you,

Sometimes I sit at coffee shops typing blank words into screens wondering what on earth is worth writing about under the sun. Life is funny that way. It doesn't present itself as a neatly typed story with a beginning, story arc, or climax and ending. Instead. It's more like:

Beginning > protagonist > climax > end of chapter > climax > what story arc (?) > what does it feel like to be 80 (?) villain identified > life event > what should I make for dinner > meltdown > life couldn't be better > life couldn't feel worse > life event...

So and so forth. We drink our coffee, go about the day, make lunch, fold laundry, and watch an episode of "Friends" or "The Office" before bed.

Craggy Garden Maternity Photos

I have friends with a major lifestyle change pending and about a month ago they asked me if I'd like to shoot some photos of these last few weeks of pregnancy. I'm not a portrait photographer, certainly with no particular skill as you will see, but it sounded fun and they're about the most low-pressure people I know.

So off we went for day in Asheville to celebrate Kerri's birthday, and brought the stuff for a photoshoot in the mountains.

We had a lovely day in Asheville, and got some fun shots in Battery Park Book Exchange.

CRAGGY GARDENS

Craggy Gardens is about 40 minutes north of Asheville, so after a nice dinner at Jerusalem Cafe (loved it; just check for the belly dancing schedule before you go) we headed up to hit the sunset hour in the mountains. Sometimes life is serendipitous, and magic surrounds one in the middle of ordinary life. We were almost bowled over by the light in a tree tunnel on the way up the mountain, stopped the car, and shot like mad.

As luck would have it, in the middle of the magic was a rogue camera setting I hadn't uncovered and so the shots were not perfect, but it didn't change the memory of that golden half hour. We were practically soaked in light when we left, but we kept chasing more. Funny how light is that way. Can't get enough.

We spent the next few hours running after the light on the mountain.

Update: little Elliot Samuel has been born! He arrived on July 6, a little over a month after this photoshoot. Congratulations Sam and Kerri! Can't wait to meet the little munchkin.
